One of the most famous torrents sharing websites extratorrent.com, also known as extra.to, extratorrent.cc etc was shut down permanently on 17 may 2017 by its owner. The users were very unhappy because it was one of the best torrent sites. But fortunately, it is back. Extratorrent was resurrected on a new domain namely extratorrent.cd by its old admins and uploaders as it seems they didn't like to go away that easily. As we know, worldwide authorities are trying to turn off torrent because of its use in piracy and we all know that it is true. Torrents are mostly used for piracy.

Reason behind Extratorrent shutdown
As I speak above, one of the main reason of shutting down Extratorrent torrent was the authorities. The Admin and owner of the Extratorrent known by the name of Sam were forced to take down the data of the website offline by the authorities and came under pressure. He took all the data offline and left a message for his viewers and users on the website. This was the message.
"ExtraTorrent has shut down permanently
ExtraTorrent with all mirrors goes offline. We permanently erase all data.
Stay away from fake ExtraTorrent websites and clones.
Thx to all ET supporters and torrent community.
ET was a place to be....
May 17, 2017"
as you can see in the message the website was shut down permanently by the admin and by looking at his message it doesn't look like he was planning to come back.
But as they say, Some things never go away.
Resurrection of Extratorrent as Extratorrent.cd
Addiction can sometimes be painful and sometimes fruitful. some of the old admins and uploaders took a stand and decided to go rogue on the older owner and relaunch Extratorrent. as they were addicted to Extratorrent and it was painful for them that ET was gone and they relaunched the website which was fruitful for users like me. (I accept. I am addicted to ET. :p)
So the website was relaunched with all the data intact and nothing different from the last one. But one of the difference is that some of the features and functions of the website are not working but it seems that they new admins are trying everything to put the Extratorrent back to its glory.
There was a communication email sent to some of the Indian publications from the new Extratorrent management. Here is the part of the message.
"We are a group of uploaders and admins from ExtraTorrent. As you know, SAM from ExtraTorrent pulled the plug yesterday and took all data offline under pressure from authorities. We were in deep shock and have been working hard to get it back online with all previous data.
We have successfully resurrected it back to its glory at extratorrent.cd with all available data. It's live and new data is continuously being updated. Some small features are not yet working and we are getting it fixed as we speak. Our group had previously resurrected The Pirate Bay and KickAss Torrents (as kickass.cd) when these went offline. These sites are our home and we won't let anyone destroy them."
As you can see this is a clear message from the new owners and managers of Extratorrent. So we will be getting new data on ET.
There is a Saying " So far so good." This is the condition of the torrent users and uploaders.
Fan made Extratorrent.
Being a fan is a pain in the ass. Doesn't matter if you are a fan of a film star, rock star, Pornstar or any other person with a star or you are just a fan of a website like Extratorrent than you should know how it feels when someone attacks your favorite one.
